Thank you, Dr. Samuel Sarphati. Your compassion and innovation as physician and city planner inspired the construction of new houses, public buildings and streets in Amsterdam. We name our street and lovely park in your honor. The Aalborg would not exist without you.
The Aalborg was originally built in the 1900’s and then 60 years ago became the Danish consulate. The first owners were gay and fabulous, known for their collection of antiques in the side building and their infamous garden parties complete with live flamingos.
Since then, the hotel has had 2 more owners and has been completely renovated along the way into the wonderful edifice you see today.
